{"id":3477,"date":"2023-03-01T11:30:04","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T11:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/straightarrow.org\/stories\/?p=3477"},"modified":"2023-03-01T11:30:05","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T11:30:05","slug":"hotho-cold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/straightarrow.org\/stories\/indigenous-stories\/seneca\/hotho-cold\/","title":{"rendered":"H\u00f3tho (Cold)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One day a man who was out hunting met H\u00f3tho and said to him, &#8220;You cannot freeze me, no matter bow cold you are.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I can,&#8221; said H\u00f3tho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They had a long discussion and at last agreed that when night came they would have a trial of strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The man went home, carried in wood enough to bum till morning, built a huge fire and made a kettle full of hemlock tea. He stood in front of the fire all night, turning first one side then the other toward the heat, often drinking a cup of hot tea.
