Chaps are leggings with a belt that provide a robust covering for the legs. They’re worn over pants with the integrated belt of the chaps, but unlike trousers, they don’t have a seat and aren’t attached at the crotch. They are usually made of leather or a leather-like substance and are designed to protect the legs. Tanned and colored leather for chaps is frequently “split” so that it is supple and may be turned into a garment that allows for easy movement. A rough side, now known as suede or “roughout,” exists beside a smooth side. Both “roughout” and “smooth out” (smooth side out) designs are available for chaps. The majority of batwings and chinks are smooth side out, whereas the majority of shotguns are suede or roughout.
